The Miami Marlins just added a big fish to their outfield. A couple of days ago, the Marlins added reigning World Series MVP Jorge Soler to their team. The deal between Soler and the Marlins is a three-year contract worth $36 million dollars. With this acquisition, the Marlins added a strong bat to their lineup.
Soler, who was a member of the Atlanta Braves and Kansas City Royals last season hit a whopping .223/.316/432 with 27 home runs in 149 games.
Although the Marlins had a postseason run in 2020, winning the National League Wild Card Series against the Chicago Cubs, they would be swept by the Atlanta Braves in three-games in the Division Series. In the 2021 postseason, Soler went 8 for 33 with three home runs in 11 games. With two of Soler’s home runs coming against the Astros in the World Series.
Soler, who was a right fielder for the Braves may see some more time as the Designated Hitter this season. With Garrett Cooper, Avisall Garcia, Bryan De La Cruz, and Jesus Sanchez already solidifying their spots in the Marlins outfield. With the designated hitter position coming to the National League this season, Soler’s play can leave an impact on this team.
Last season, the Marlins went 67-95, which is their third straight 162 game season with at least 95 losses. In 2021, the Marlins ranked 27th in Major League Baseball with a team batting average of .232, and they ranked 29th in the MLB only scoring 3.85 runs per game.
Soler was all smiles as he arrived at Marlins spring training, ready to elevate this team's odds.
